Congratulations to South Side's MAC (Midwestern Athletic Conference) Athletes of the Year - Eden Schrier and Carter Wilson! Eden and Carter were nominated for their academic accomplishments as well as for representing SSHS as multi-sport athletes. The MAC recognized and celebrated male and female senior athletes from each member school during a banquet at the Fez. Eden plans to attend Robert Morris University next year where she’ll study Computer Science and play club soccer. Carter plans to attend Slippery Rock University to study Criminal Justice and play baseball.

Sharing some FABULOUS work from Spanish 3. Students were asked to recreate a work from a famous Spanish artist and the results are stunning!


Congratulations to senior Dom Lightner, who broke the school pole vault record at this week’s home track meet. Dom set the new record with a jump of 13'10". Congratulations Dom!

Congratulations to senior Bailey Strnisa who has been selected to play in the annual Roundball Classic All Star Basketball Game. The game will be held on May 25 at North Allegheny High School at 6:00pm.

Please join us in congratulating Senior, Slayton Williams who made his college decision official. Slayton will continue his education and football career at Marietta College. Congratulations Slayton!


Congratulations to Mr. Jake Lytle for qualifying for the PMEA All State Chorus Festival. Only the top 21 singers in his section from grades 10-12 in the State get to advance to All States by audition. He also is the first Sophomore from South Side ever to advance to all states and only one of a half dozen sophomores in the entire chorus of about 200. Big congrats Jake!


The SSASD 2025-2026 school year calendar has been board approved.

SSHS Yearbook Order information


SS gymnasts Alayna & Ava Kelly qualified into the PA Classic Gymnastics Championships that were held at Huntingdon High School this past weekend. Alayna Kelly competed in the Diamond Division (highest level) and won 6th place Bars & 4th place Floor. Great job gymnasts!


A group of our high school students and staff took the "Cool Schools Polar Plunge" at Acrisure Stadium last week. The Cool Schools plunge is open to k-12 students who work to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics. We're so proud of their work AND their willingness to brave the cold!


On February 22, 2025, South Side had 24 students participate in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Competition. The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) is a statewide organization of junior and senior high school students designed to stimulate and promote interest in science through the development of research projects and investigations. The winners are: for the High School, Janelle Vidovich, Haley Cain, and Reagen Kelly, each received second awards. First Awards and qualifying for the state competition at Penn State in May are: Katie Shaner, Addison Cox, Elizabeth Betke, Asa Rosak, Cody Mehlmauher, Caden Cusato with a perfect score and Nolan English who also received the SRU Outstanding Sr. High Chemistry Award. For the Middle School, Lucas Seiling third, Jonah Hickman and Austin Jellison second. First Awards and qualifying for the state competition at Penn State in May are Jada Winters, Emily Betke, Rowan Goe, Holly Kondik, Sadie Wnoroski, Amelia Masley, Jada Kyles, Gia Darroch, Kendall Dawson, Allison Kemp, and Robbie Betkie with Holly winning the SRU Behavioral Science Award. Congratulations to all and good luck to those going on to PSU.


Thanks, Mr. Lytle, for coordinating another awesome ski trip for our students! The kids had a blast and are already talking about next year’s trips!


Congratulations to South Side Chorus students Jake Lytle and Erin Long on their outstanding performance with PMEA District Chorus! Additionally, Jake advanced to the PMEA Region Chorus, placing third out of 21 Tenors in his section at the festival. Region Chorus will be held in mid-March at Waynesburg University. Well done!
