CONGRATULATIONS SPONGEBOB CAST & CREW! This weekend, our very first Middle School Musical at South Side Area School District made a SPLASH—and what an unforgettable debut it was!

A huge congratulations to the cast and crew of SpongeBob The Musical Jr.! From the high-energy performances to the colorful storytelling, every student on stage and behind the scenes brought Bikini Bottom to life with talent, dedication, and heart. We couldn’t be prouder of our Middle School performers for setting the bar incredibly high for future productions.

A special thank you and BIG congratulations to our High School Musical Theater Tech class, who designed, created, and managed sets, props, lights, blocking, choreography, vocals, organization, audio, costumes, and so much more. They quite literally ran the entire show—and they did it with professionalism, creativity, and pride.

Thank you to our directors, staff, families, and volunteers who supported the show from start to finish.

And thank you to our amazing audiences for cheering on our students all weekend long!

Please congratulate our cross country team on a great performance at the WPIAL Championship! The boys team finished 5th out of 22 teams overall. The following individuals have qualified for the state championship: Cascade Stobart, Alex Cowden, Tyler Cooke, and Ian Dilts. They will be competing in Hershey on Saturday, November 1st. Great job South Side and good luck to our state qualifiers!

Our College & Career Fair was a huge success! Students in grades 8-12 explored future opportunities by chatting with representatives from colleges, trade schools, trade unions, and military branches. Huge thanks to Ms. Metzler for coordinating this event and to the representatives for taking time to visit with our students today!

South Side Area SD Annual Tractor Day Parade, May 09, 2025

Recently, a group of SSHS students participated in the National Academic Quiz Tournament Small School National Championship. Eighty-eight teams from around the country competed in head-to-head knowledge matchups. Our students finished 4 and 6, with a final rank of 52 of 88. While this ranking wasn't enough to get them to the playoffs, we're still proud of their efforts!

South Side Middle School has earned a 13th consecutive year of recognition in the National Schools to Watch program, a middle school recognition and continuous improvement initiative developed by the National Forum, a nonprofit educators association. Schools to Watch schools serve as a model to mentor other schools because of demonstrated social equity, developmental responsiveness, academic excellence, and innovative systems. They are characterized by strong leadership, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and a commitment to continuous improvement that is based on supporting the whole child through social, emotional, and academic growth. Congratulations!

On February 04, junior Andrew Corfield scored his 1,000th career point in our boys basketball game against Union. Please join us in celebrating him on this accomplishment! Congratulations Andrew!!
