The SSMS Book Fair returns this year! The fair will be open for student shopping August 27-29 during school hours and for parent/community shopping August 28 from 6-8pm during Back to School Night. HUGE THANKS to the PTO for helping to make this happen!

SSMS was Re-designated (4) 2025-2028 as a PA Don Eichhorn Schools to Watch in a ceremony on May 19, 2025. We are Advancing Excellence in the Middle Grades!
Come join the South Side cross country and track teams for our 3rd annual 5K. This sunset fun run will help us all close out the summer and get ready for school to begin. This run will be part cross country trail, part track, and also through our school grounds. There are no public roads or traffic, making it a great run for kids and families. Race will be followed by fun family activities. Visit our race site for more information and to sign up! Or scan the QR code. All proceeds benefit the South Side middle and high school track and cross-country teams. Sponsorship and donation opportunities available as well. This past weekend, several of our middle school students competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) state competition at Penn State. Congratulations to Holly Kondick, Jada Winters, Sadie Wnoroski, Amelia Masley, Emily Betke and Robbie Betke for bringing home FIRST awards and to Kendall Dawson, Amelia Kemp, Jada Kyles, Gia Darroch and Rowan Goe for bringing home SECOND awards. Well done, everyone! And special thanks to Ms. Stonebraker for working with our PJAS competitors throughout the year to ensure they're well-prepared and ready to compete.

South Side Middle School has earned a 13th consecutive year of recognition in the National
Schools to Watch program, a middle school recognition and continuous improvement initiative developed by the National Forum, a nonprofit educators association. Schools to Watch schools serve as a model to mentor other schools because of demonstrated social equity, developmental responsiveness, academic excellence, and innovative systems. They are characterized by strong leadership, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and a commitment to continuous improvement that is based on supporting the whole child through social, emotional, and academic growth. SSMS enjoys club time. All SSMS students have an opportunity to attend 13 different clubs ranging from chess to Lego to outdoor clubs. Special thanks to the staff and Ms. Fulciniti for facilitating the fun opportunity.
