The SSASD 2025-2026 school year calendar has been board approved.


South Side Middle School has earned a 13th consecutive year of recognition in the National
Schools to Watch program, a middle school recognition and continuous improvement initiative developed by the National Forum, a nonprofit educators association. Schools to Watch schools serve as a model to mentor other schools because of demonstrated social equity, developmental responsiveness, academic excellence, and innovative systems. They are characterized by strong leadership, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and a commitment to continuous improvement that is based on supporting the whole child through social, emotional, and academic growth. Congratulations!





On February 22, 2025, South Side had 24 students participate in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Competition. The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) is a statewide organization of junior and senior high school students designed to stimulate and promote interest in science through the development of research projects and investigations. The winners are: for the High School, Janelle Vidovich, Haley Cain, and Reagen Kelly, each received second awards. First Awards and qualifying for the state competition at Penn State in May are: Katie Shaner, Addison Cox, Elizabeth Betke, Asa Rosak, Cody Mehlmauher, Caden Cusato with a perfect score and Nolan English who also received the SRU Outstanding Sr. High Chemistry Award. For the Middle School, Lucas Seiling third, Jonah Hickman and Austin Jellison second. First Awards and qualifying for the state competition at Penn State in May are Jada Winters, Emily Betke, Rowan Goe, Holly Kondik, Sadie Wnoroski, Amelia Masley, Jada Kyles, Gia Darroch, Kendall Dawson, Allison Kemp, and Robbie Betkie with Holly winning the SRU Behavioral Science Award. Congratulations to all and good luck to those going on to PSU.


In celebration of #WorldKindnessDay, our high school YAP (Youth Ambassador Program) members visited with elementary students on November 13, 2024 to share stories of kindness and friendship. It's hard to say who enjoyed their time more!
Thanks to Mrs. Welch and the elementary teachers for inviting us in and to our YAP sponsors, Mrs. Simpson and Ms. Myers, for coordinating the event!


SSMS enjoys club time. All SSMS students have an opportunity to attend 13 different clubs ranging from chess to Lego to outdoor clubs. Special thanks to the staff and Ms. Fulciniti for facilitating the fun opportunity.





Sixty-four runners came out this weekend for the second annual Run With The Rams 5K benefitting our middle and high school cross country and track teams. Finishing in the top three were Kodiak Stobart, Ian Dilts, and CJ Christiansen. Congratulations, guys! And thanks to the coaches, parents, and community volunteers who made this event possible!

We did it! South Side has been recognized as a #BestCommunitiesforMusicEducation! Let’s celebrate the district’s dedication to music education for all students. Special thanks to Mr. Cornelius, Mr. Diehl, and Mrs. Zerance for sharing their passion for music with our students K-12.


SSMS announces our newest members to our National Junior Honor Society chapter. This month we recognized 11 seventh grade students and one 8th grade student for scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship. Congratulations to our students and families! Special thanks to Ms. Rosak and the eighth grade NJHS students that facilitated a beautiful ceremony.
