SSMS was Re-designated (4) 2025-2028 as a PA Don Eichhorn Schools to Watch in a ceremony on May 19, 2025. We are Advancing Excellence in the Middle Grades!
Come join the South Side cross country and track teams for our 3rd annual 5K. This sunset fun run will help us all close out the summer and get ready for school to begin. This run will be part cross country trail, part track, and also through our school grounds. There are no public roads or traffic, making it a great run for kids and families. Race will be followed by fun family activities. Visit our race site for more information and to sign up! Or scan the QR code. All proceeds benefit the South Side middle and high school track and cross-country teams. Sponsorship and donation opportunities available as well. This past weekend, several of our middle school students competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) state competition at Penn State. Congratulations to Holly Kondick, Jada Winters, Sadie Wnoroski, Amelia Masley, Emily Betke and Robbie Betke for bringing home FIRST awards and to Kendall Dawson, Amelia Kemp, Jada Kyles, Gia Darroch and Rowan Goe for bringing home SECOND awards. Well done, everyone! And special thanks to Ms. Stonebraker for working with our PJAS competitors throughout the year to ensure they're well-prepared and ready to compete.

South Side Area SD Annual Tractor Day Parade, May 09, 2025
The middle school Student Council is sponsoring a food drive to help support our local food bank. Donations will replenish the supply from our most recent power outage. Any non-perishable items may be brought into homerooms now through May 28. The homeroom reps have a tally sheet and will keep track of donations. The homeroom and students with the most donations will play a dodgeball game vs teachers on June 6. Thank you for supporting the Student Council.
Congratulations to Dominick Lightner and Carter Moore on making it to States next week to compete in the PIAA Championship for Pole Vault. Carter placed 5th in the Pole Vault and Dom won the WPIAL Championship!
