South Side Grad Rachel Hilliard Earns U-Mass Athlete of the Week Honors!

Congratulations to South Side Grad Rachel Hilliard, class of 2011, was named UMass Co-Athlete of the Week for the second time this fall after winning All-New England cross country honors this past weekend.  Click on the link for the article.  
Additionally,Rachel will be competing in the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships at Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park on November 1. The women’s race is at 10 AM. The rest of the details can be found here:   Race details
Since she’s a senior, this will be Rachel’s last collegiate cross country race.Therefore, if you want to see her compete for the conference championship – or if you just want to come out and experience a fun NCAA event – please feel free to drop by.
Financial Aid Night

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT - Tuesday October 28th from 6:30-8 in the library. Open to all - very useful post-secondary financial aid info to be shared! Seniors and their parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend.

CCBC Aviation Academy
In January, CCBC will launch its Aviation Academy, the first program in the region that gives high school students a head start on earning college credits while receiving training in aviation.  Students in grades 10- 12 will be able to choose between four pathways, including professional pilot, air traffic control, aerospace management and unmanned aerial vehicles. With the program, students will spend half of the day in high school and the other half taking courses in science, technology, engineering and math taught by CCBC faculty on campus at the college's new Aviation Sciences Center in Chippewa.  Mrs. Tammy Adams, Superintendent, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony today held at the Center.  South Side High School students will be able to learn more about the program when representatives from CCBC visit in November. 
South Side Area SD Core Values

The South Side Area School District revised its vision and mission statements this past spring.  It is now time to develop a new set of Core Values.  All district staff and students are encourage to complete the Core Values survey by Friday, October 31st.

Announcement regarding the use of South Side's track
The community is welcome to utilize the district campus and track area until 10:00pm each evening; however, please be advised that from November 2nd through February 28th, the campus will be closed in the evenings due to potential inclement weather.  Thank you.
Congratulations to Commended Scholar Melissa Halstead!
South Side School District is pleased to announce that Melissa Halstead been named a Commended Scholar in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship program.  About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the scholarship program by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
In addition to being a Commended Scholar, Melissa was named a 2014-2015 Scholar through the National Hispanic Recognition Program. Each year, the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT.  Congratulations Melissa on your wonderful work!
Community Crime Prevention
On September 25, 2014,  South Side Area School District employees Chief Pritchard and Officer Harrison provided a Community Crime Prevention Session. The session emphasized various strategies for keeping our families and homes safe. The session was held in the middle school/high school cafeteria. Spring 2014 Clean Up...Thank you!
The Spring 2014 community clean up weekend was held on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27.  We had over 150 students, teachers and community members participate.  The cleanup was a huge success as we collected around 700 bags of trash from the roadways in our school district.  The hard work is definitely paying off as many have commented on how good our community looks.  In addition to the dozens of volunteers who made this day a success, we would like to thank the following individuals, companies and organizations for their donations; C&E Plastics, The Howard Agency, The Hookstown Fair Board, Ponderosa Golf Course, Hanover Township, Raccoon Park, Beth and Pat Adams, Creative Minds Printing, Joyce Miller, Jeff Jones, Parsons Inc, Hookstown American Legion, Shippingport Borough, South Side Garage, Iannetti's Garden Center and County Line Pizza.

The 2014 Rambler yearbooks have arrived!
The 2014 Rambler yearbooks have arrived! 2014 graduates may pick up their yearbook after school from 2:30-3 or by contacting Ms. Fulciniti @ Please give 24 hours advance notice to have your yearbook left in the office for pick up the following day. 10th, 11th and 12th graders may pick up their yearbooks during lunches. Extra copies of the 2014 yearbook are available - please contact Ms. Fulciniti for more information.
