As you may recall from our participation for the last 2 years, “Hometown High Q” is a KDKA TV show that features local area high schools in an academic quiz show competition. Recently, the SSHS team again traveled to KDKA studios in Pittsburgh and competed. South Side defeated Neshannock and Beaver by a resounding margin of 480-290-290! Under the guidance and tutelage of Mr. Sam McCoy, our team members were Senia Walton, Amanda Grace, and Jon Sadenwasser. The show will air February 1st at 11:00 a.m. and February 8th at 11:30 a.m. on KDKA. Congratulations!
Propaganda: Olivia Masciantoni, Madie Logan, Dane Chiccarello, Melissa Halstead, and Ben Foringer.
Equations: Ashley Chiccarello, Landon Allison, Devin Ross, Reagan Halstead, Taylor Jenkins, Nate Statler, Madison Beardmore, Kyle Maxwell, Isaac Martin, Megan Muller, and Rachael Pieto. Ashley, Landon, Megan, Rachael, and Isaac had perfect games!
Congratulations to our wonderful student instrumentalists! In the past month, South Side has had many students, under the direction of Mr. Sisler, participating in the various festival bands in Western PA. We have a total of 12 students who will be representing our district!
We had 4 students, Jospeh Field, Taylor Milliken, Amanda Grace, Kristen Greenawald, prepare a collegiate level solo and travel to Westminster College (New Wilmington) to audition to make the PMEA District 5 Honors Band. Students from schools in Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer and Butler counties participated. Amanda Grace finished 8th out of 27 Flute players and will represent South Side in this year’s District 5 Honors Band at Westminster College. Way to go!
We had 2 seniors, Amanda Grace and Taylor Milliken, selected to participate in this year’s PMEA District Band at Lakeview High School. They will be playing with students from schools in Beaver, Mercer, Lawrence, and Butler counties.
Beaver County Band
The following students were selected to this year's Beaver County Band Festival to be held at Riverside High School. From the High School were Amanda Grace, Victoria Flynn, Taylor Milliken, Ashley Heinlein, Kristen Greenawald, Joseph Field, and Ben Patosky. From the Middle School were Elle Farber, Nick Bobish, Jane Turek, George Poelcher, and Isaac Martin. These students will participate in a band filled with students from all of the schools in Beaver County. We are very excited for what these young musicians have to offer; they will be great ambassadors for the South Side music program!
For ticket information, contact coach Robert Harrison via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or Mrs. Jacobs in the HS Guidance Office at email@example.com. Please view the attached flyer for additional information. This would be a great Christmas present for any basketball fan!
