On October 9th, our middle and high school students traded their usual routines for a chance to experience interests, try something new, and just have fun!
We built with LEGO, played chess and checkers, got outside for a little football fun, played hacky sack, made bracelets, did dot art, talked about our favorite recipes and movies, played board, video, and card games, painted, created, and had FUN. All of this is part of Club Days.
Huge thanks to our teachers for sharing their interests, passions, and time to make these opportunities possible for our students!

This year, Ms. Mazur’s high school art classes and art club are participating in PennDOT’s Paint the Plow competition. The yearly competition promotes safe winter driving by having schools create moving art pieces connected to a theme. This winter’s theme is “Snow Means Slow.”
In a few weeks, we will be up against schools from Beaver, Lawrence, and Allegheny counties to see whose plow has the best design. Watch this page - we’ll post the link when public voting opens.
And be on the lookout this winter as OUR plow will be used to clear roads within our school district!

SSMS showed up for TWIN DAY during the October 2026 Homecoming Spirit Week!
The South Side Area HS Marching Band kicked off their competitive season on Saturday, September 19th at the Mt. Lebanon PIMBA show. The band placed first in Class 1A with a score of 69.275 and took home caption awards for Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect. Congratulations!!!!
The band has two more competitions this season: October 17th at McKeesport and October 25th at Gateway. Good luck, band!

If an eye exam reveals that your child needs glasses, they can select their frames on-site, and prescription glasses will be mailed directly to your home, free of charge. Appointments are required, so don't miss this opportunity to ensure your child has the clear vision they need to succeed in school and beyond.
