COVID-19
Dear South Side Families,

While there are currently no cases of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania, Ohio, or West Virginia, South Side Area School District’s number one priority remains that of the safety, and well-being of our students and staff. As we continue to extensively monitor the spread of COVID-19 Virus (Coronavirus Disease) we would like to update you on the progressive preventative measures the district has already had in place.  The South Side Area School District's nurses, administrators, security team, and maintenance/custodial department remain vigilant in our proactive, preventative measures including educating even our youngest students around minimizing the spread of germs (hand washing and good hygiene).

Additionally, please be assured that South Side Area School District is exceeding the minimum recommendations from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) regarding the disinfection of our classrooms and buildings. This includes daily disinfecting of common surfaces and desks within our buildings and classrooms as well as electrostatic disinfecting of all buildings weekly. We ask that you join us in our commitment to keeping students, staff, and our community healthy by following the recommended guidelines from the CDC:

Prevention
There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
  • Please keep your children home from school if they are sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    •  CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

In the event that South Side Area School District would be impacted, we will work closely with state and local health departments as well as the Pennsylvania Department of Educationon any necessary school closures. Rest assured that our families will be notified of any necessary information, or pertinent updates that we may receive. Additionally, we ask that if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the appropriate building office.
