Service Learning is…. Projects that are designed to meet a need in the community and enhance or reinforce curriculum goals. It provides structured time for students to reflect on their service and learning experiences through a mix of writing, reading, speaking, listening, and creating in small and large group and individual work. In our program, projects are student developed and directed.
A service learning project connects community service to standards within the curriculum. What is the difference between community service and service-learning? The key difference is the link to the curriculum. Service-learning is community service projects used to enhance learning of a standard within a curriculum.
Service-learning is more than community service! It is a method of teaching and an experiential experience for students to advance their skills and knowledge! Through service-learning, the community becomes a classroom! PSLA (Pennsylvania Service Learning Alliance at the University of Pittsburgh) |
