Board Member Bios
Don Parsons, Board President
Don is currently serving in his 4th year as a school director.  He has been the Chair of the Finance Committee for two years.  Don is a 1993 graduate of South Side and is married to Jennifer, also a South Side graduate, who previously served as a School Board Director for over 9 years.  His son Jonathan is currently in ninth grade.  Don earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance/Economics and a Master of Business Administration from Robert Morris University.  Don is currently employed by Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he is a Senior Manager of Finance Business Systems and has been working in the Finance Department for over 10 years.  Don is also a member of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church and resides in Greene Township.  Don's board member term ends in 2021.
Shelly Youree
Shelly has been a member of the South Side Area School District Board of Directors since 2001.  She is a graduate of South Side Area School District in 1975 and of Bradford Business School in 1976.  Shelly has been a past Vice-President and currently serving as Treasurer of the school district and also serving on the Citizen’s Advisory Committee and the negotiations committee for the professional staff.  She has worked in the past as a receptionist for Heritage Valley.  She and her husband Cam Youree have three children.  All three are graduates of South Side.  Her greatest moment has been to hand each of her children their high school diplomas.  They are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren, Ty and Savanna.  Shelly's board member term ends in 2021.
Brenda McCarrell
Brenda joined the school board in Jan 2015.  She is a South Side graduate with strong family ties to the community as a lifelong resident and parent in the District.  Brenda brings 13+ years experience in the hospital technology industry as an Administrative Assistant and five years of school student transportation for the District, bringing a diverse perspective to her board position.  Brenda currently serves on the Curriculum Committee and Contract Negotiations Committee.  Brenda's board member term ends in 2019.  
Michael Rounds
Mike was born and raised in Beaver County and is a 1983 graduate of both Blackhawk High School and Beaver County Area Vocational Technical School.  After school Mike joined the U.S. Army and served for 14 years (active and inactive).  While in the Army he attended Central Texas College and the University of Maryland.  Mike received a degree in computer science from the latter.  Upon leaving the Army he decided to settle down in the southeastern Massachusetts area, due to the job market.  Mike secured a job with Titleist (the golf ball maker) as a factory worker.  After about 5 years he was put in charge of the raw materials lab, a position he held for about 15 years. When Mike was down sized from Titleist he decided to start his own business, which he was able to sell, retire, and come home to Pennsylvania.  Mike has been living in Hookstown since 2010 with his girlfriend Suann (McElhaney) Johnson and their two lovely girls, Lexus Johnson and Mercede Johnson.  Mike is a member of Mill Creek Church, Hookstown Grange, South Side Sportsmen’s Club, Midland Sportsmen’s Club, and Aliquippa Bucktails.  He also volunteers his time at the Hookstown Fair.  Please feel free to contact Mike anytime at  Cell (508) 971-4703.  Home (724) 573-9270.  Mike's board member term ends in 2019. 
Larry Smith
Larry and his family reside in Greene Township.  Larry's board member term ends in 2021.Mr. Smith was appointed to the school board in the early fall of 2010.  Larry was born and raised in Beaver County, in the footprint of the South Side Area School District.  He has remained as a resident of the district his entire life.  Larry is an alumni of South Side, having graduated in 1975.  He and his wife Lori have a daughter Cassie, a 2009 graduate of the district.  Larry is very active within the community, assisting those in need through various fundraisers.  Larry loves to write,and often sends letters of support to those who are combating an illness, or simply going through difficult times.  Larry and his wife have two grandchildren Raelyn (7), and Harper (4).  Raelyn is a 4 generation to attend South Side.  Larry is a committee member of the districts Hall of Fame program since 2007.  He has served on the South Side Education Foundation as a board representative, and currently serving as a representative on the negotiation committee.  Larry is employed as an industrial rubber products salesman at ERIKS North America in Findlay Township, now in his 43 year with the company.  Larry's board member term ends in 2021.

Farin Weltner

Farin graduated from South Side School in 1995 and decided to take over her family’s dairy farm, Green Valley Dairy.  Farin and her husband have two sons, Kalen 12 and Rylen 8, both students at the school and the 5th generation to live on her Century Farm.  Farin is actively involved with the PTO and a homeroom mom.  Farin also serves on the BVIU board, and both the Curriculum and Finance Committees.  Outside of the school, Farin helps with the local 4H and serves on Beaver County's Agricultural Preservation Board.  Farin enjoys spending time at the school and watching our students grow!   Farin's board member term ends in 2019.

Bernice Woodling

Bernice has served on the school board since the spring of 2014 and is presently the chairperson of the Curriculum and Hall of Fame committees.  Bernice is a resident of Hanover Township.  She is married to David Woodling and has 3 married children and 8 grandchildren.  Bernice is enjoying her retirement and continues to work on the family farm.  Bernice is a South Side Salutatorian of Class of 1969.  She earned a Bachelor Degree from Penn State University in 1972 graduating with honors and a Master Equivalency with an emphasis on Computer Technology.  Bernice taught for 37 years at South Side High School in the math and computer departments.  Prior to teaching at South Side, she taught Algebra for 2 years in Clearview, Florida.  Bernice was instrumental in establishing South Side’s first computer labs and original technology curriculum and served as South Side’s first District Technology Coordinator.  Bernice also coached volleyball for 10 years, cheerleading for 3 years, and served as Senior Class Sponsor for 20 years.  Bernice has been a Beaver County 4-H leader since 1974 earning the Outstanding Leader Award in 1999.  She is also involved in the local 4-H club and enjoys being a Master Gardener of Penn State.  She was also named the Hookstown Grange Community Person Award in 2013.  Bernice is a past PTA President and is a member of the South Side Hall of Fame.  Bernice's board member term ends in 2019.

Craig Stewart
Craig was appointed to the South Side Area School District Board of Directors in February of 2018.  After graduating as Salutatorian of the South Side class of 1993, he attended The Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture.  Following college, he worked for The Davey Tree Expert Company in Pittsburgh, PA, where he was an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist.  Craig is currently employed at his family's business, Stewart's Collision Center, in Greene Township where he is a Pennsylvania Licensed Auto Damage Appraiser.  A resident of Hanover Township, he has three children, Trystan, Olivia and Brianna, that attend South Side.  Craig serves on the Finance Committee, the Negotiation Committee and is a member of the Beaver County Career and Technology Joint Operating Committee.  Craig's board member term ends in 2019.
